Eighth Circuit will continue regular operations in the event of a government shutdown.

Friday, January 19, 2018

In the event of a federal government shutdown on January 19, 2018, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit will be open for business as usual on Monday, January 22, 2018.  The federal courts currently have sufficient funds on hand to maintain normal operations, including CJA payments, through February 9, 2018.  In the event of a prolonged shutdown, the Clerk's Office will post additional information regarding operations as we obtain further directions from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

In light of the fact that the court's operations will not be interruped by the shutdown, filing dates are not automatically extended.  The clerk's office will be happy to work with any attorney affected by the shutdown, but motions to continue must be filed in order to extend due dates which fall during the shutdown.  Please contact the Clerk's Office for additional information.
